Abstract

This study deals with the monthly distribution and seasonal variation of textural analysis with organic carbon of sediment from two transects like Rushikulya and Bahuda estuary of south Odisha coast during Feb’ 2022 to Jan’2023. The textural analyses of air and oven dried sediment samples were made by dry sieving. The organic carbon of sediment performed the standard method of estimation. As a result of which high organic carbon values (6.89 mgC g-1) were obtained at upstream stations of pre-monsoon, post monsoon and monsoon seasons for higher plankton production. The sediments of estuarine region have relatively higher levels of organic carbon found mouth of the estuary than the riverine region. During monsoon the sediment was mainly clayey sandy and in the post monsoon and pre monsoon, it was found to be sandy except in the mouth of the estuary. These studies possess important tool in interpreting the value of organic carbon and assessing the textural regeneration of estuarine sediment.
